What Are the Different Types of JUVÉDERM Fillers?

JUVEDERM

JUVÉDERM is an injectable filler that can improve the appearance of deep facial wrinkles, folds, lines, and acne scars, enhance the lips, and contour facial features like the chin and cheeks. JUVÉDERM is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in all species which is highly attracted to water and has the ability to bind to it. The results are very natural and long‐lasting, with the effect remaining for 6 months or longer.

JUVEDERM VOLUMA XC

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC contains hyaluronic acid like the other products, but it is thicker and designed to give a lifted appearance to the cheek area. VOLUMA XC is the only filler approved by the FDA specifically to restore age‐related volume loss in the mid‐face. The gel is injected deeper than other fillers and is clinically proven to provide results that last up to 2 years when performed by an experienced injector. VOLUMA XC is pre‐mixed with a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

JUVEDERM VOLBELLA XC

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is a soft, pliable hyaluronic acid filler that is specifically formulated for lip enhancement. We use this versatile product to:

  • Plump up and sculpt the lips
  • Lift downturned corners of the mouth
  • Smooth away lines around the lips (sometimes called “smoker’s lines”)

VOLBELLA includes lidocaine for enhanced comfort during treatments. Results are subtle and natural‐looking, and may last up to 1 year.

Dermal Filler Procedures

To begin your injectable procedure, your doctor will consult with you to ensure that you will achieve the natural-looking results you want. Depending on the areas being treated, dermal filler injections typically take 15 to 40 minutes to complete and are performed in our office.

When performing the procedure, a topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, or nerve block may first be administered for your comfort before injecting the filler directly beneath the skin with a very fine needle.

Recovery

After the procedure, some patients may experience redness or swelling at the injection site, which can last for a few days. Work and other normal activities, however, can be resumed right after treatment. All JUVÉDERM and RHA Collection fillers are safe and effective injectables for all skin types and colors.

Dermal Fillers FAQ

How long do fillers last?

Filler results last longer and longer as they become more refined. The duration varies depending on the filler used, but it can range from about 6 to 9 months to more than 2 years for a filler such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC.

What’s the difference between BOTOX Cosmetic and fillers?

Both BOTOX and dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to reduce wrinkles and other signs of facial aging, but the similarities stop there. The active ingredient in BOTOX is a purified form of the botulinum toxin that works by temporarily relaxing muscles that cause “dynamic” wrinkles. These are the wrinkles formed when we make facial expressions, such as crow’s feet. Fillers actually fill in a different kind of wrinkles — those caused as our faces lose volume with age. We strategically combine both treatments to create a more youthful, natural-looking appearance.

Who can benefit from fillers?

Virtually anyone concerned about facial wrinkles or who wants to restore volume to the cheeks, lips, or under the eyes is a good candidate for fillers. Most fillers, including JUVÉDERM and RHA Collection products, are made using ingredients that are produced naturally by the body, so allergic reactions are extremely rare.

Can the results of filler treatments be reversed?

In the vast majority of cases, patients are very satisfied with the outcome of filler injections. However, if someone doesn’t like the results of fillers using hyaluronic acid—which include the most popular fillers—the product can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
