About Rhinoplasty

Board-certified facial plastic surgeons Dr. Brent Koch and Dr. Cody Koch has the unique ability to improve the appearance of the nose while simultaneously improving its breathing function.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

Through cosmetic rhinoplasty, the appearance of the nose can be altered by:

  • Reducing a nasal hump
  • Changing the shape of the tip or bridge
  • Raising or lowering the tip
  • Narrowing the span of the nostrils

Cosmetic rhinoplasty creates a more proportional, harmonious nose while honoring your face’s unique aesthetic integrity.

Functional Rhinoplasty (Deviated Septum Correction)

If the septum is deviated or the nasal passages are blocked, your surgeon can correct your breathing with a septoplasty. If this is the case, insurance may reimburse you for the functional portion of the procedure.

Whether you want to repair a broken nose or achieve a smaller, more balanced nose, nose surgery can give you the chance to make long-lasting improvements in your breathing and nasal appearance.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Des Moines?

At our practice, the price of rhinoplasty depends on your specific needs. Cosmetic consultations with Dr. Brent Koch or Dr. Cody Koch are $150. If you decide to book your procedure within a year of your consultation, we will apply this payment to the surgeon’s fee. Dr. Cody Koch accepts medical insurance for functional rhinoplasty.

What’s a Liquid Rhinoplasty?

A liquid rhinoplasty, also called a liquid nose job, is a nonsurgical procedure that reshapes the nose with dermal filler injections. It is best for making subtle improvements to the bridge or tip of the nose. While it is more affordable than surgical rhinoplasty and requires no downtime, liquid rhinoplasty cannot correct breathing problems and provides temporary results. Learn more in this blog post.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Our surgeons perform revision rhinoplasty, also called secondary rhinoplasty, for people who are unhappy with the results of a previous rhinoplasty performed elsewhere or experience an unforeseen complication or trauma to the nose after rhinoplasty. These procedures frequently involve complex challenges such as scarring and loss of cartilage that require the specialized training and experience posessed by our facial plastic surgeons.

What To Expect at Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

Your nominal consultation fee covers an extensive, personal consultation with either Dr. Brent Koch or Dr. Cody Koch. Your doctor will:

  • Spend a great deal of time with you, discussing your goals, concerns, and physical and lifestyle considerations.
  • Listen intently to your insights, opinions, and desires.
  • Perform computer imaging to help you visualize your results.
  • Work with you to develop the best approach to your treatment, as each nasal surgery is different and requires a unique plan.

Women and men who schedule their surgery at the time of consultation will have their consultation fee applied toward their procedure.

Computer Imaging

We offer computer imaging so you can see possible results in advance of your surgery. This advancement in technology allows us to alter a computer-enhanced image of your nose and face to simulate your final outcome. It also allows us to understand exactly what you are aiming to achieve.

How Is Rhinoplasty Surgery Done?

The actual rhinoplasty procedure involves restructuring the cartilage and bone that form the nose’s framework. The skin is then re-draped over the new shape. A small plastic splint is worn over the bridge of the nose for 4 to 5 days following the surgery.

The procedure takes place in an outpatient surgery center. It is most often performed using general anesthesia.

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Take?

Rhinoplasty usually takes between 1 and 2 hours to complete, although more complicated procedures may take longer.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

What’s the best age for rhinoplasty surgery?

The “best” age for rhinoplasty is when you are confident you want to make a lasting change to your nose, understand what is possible with surgery, and are prepared to take time out for recovery. With parental consent, teens can have the surgery once their facial growth is complete.

How long will my results last?

Rhinoplasty results last indefinitely as long as the nose is not injured. While the aging process affects the nose, the improvements from surgery remain fairly consistent.

What’s the difference between a functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty?

Functional rhinoplasty improves breathing (the nose’s function); cosmetic rhinoplasty improves the way the nose looks by addressing irregularities in its shape and helping it balance with the other facial features.

How painful is a nose job?

Most patients tolerate the procedure very well. There may be some pain initially, especially during the first 24 to 48 hours; however, taking the prescribed pain medication as directed makes it very tolerable! Our surgeons do not use nasal packing, eliminating this common source of discomfort. Keep in mind that experiences and tolerance for pain vary between patients.

Will I have any noticeable scars?

No. Incisions are placed either inside the nose or hidden in the strip of skin between the nostrils (columella).
