As we age, our bodies start to change, resulting in less energy, weight gain, and even a diminished libido. Natural hormone fluctuations are often at the center of these changes. At Koch & Carlisle Plastic Surgery & Spa, we offer hormone optimization to help people from Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, Davenport, and beyond safely regain some of the benefits of their youth.

Research has proved that hormone replacement therapy treatments offer steady, even release of hormones at levels that are both safe and effective. Evidence-based studies have shown that optimized hormones significantly reduce the risk of serious health problems, like osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and diabetes.

Who Is a Candidate?

Hormone optimization is available for both men and women. Often, symptoms of hormone imbalance are vague and can be linked to other conditions. If you are bothered by 5 or more of the following symptoms, you may be a good candidate of our hormone optimization program:

  • Reduced libido
  • Loss of muscle tone
  • Aches and pains in the joints
  • Trouble losing weight
  • Gaining unwanted fat around the midsection
  • Brain fog, anxiety, or depression
  • Fatigue
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep

However, you are ineligible for hormone optimization if you have a history of prostate cancer or breast cancer.

How Does Hormone Optimization Work?

Hormone optimization at Koch & Carlisle Plastic Surgery & Spa is customized to suit your unique needs. After your consultation and examination to determine whether you are a good candidate, Dr. Katie will discuss hormone options to suit your needs.

You will start to feel the effects of the hormones over the course of a few days, with renewed energy and overall sense of wellness as the treatment continues to work. Over the course of several months, you will experience the full effects of the hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Katie will work with you to adjust your dosage to ensure the best results possible.

Side effects of hormone optimization are usually minimal. Some patients report developing acne, facial hair, or thinning hair, side effects which are temporary and reversible.
